Malaysia Targets Indonesian Education Sector Through Franchise

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Malaysian franchise development institute targets to place 12 of its franchise from different line of business in Indonesia, durin a business convention and exhibition which opens today (18/6) in Jakarta.

Managing Director of Malaysia's Franchise Development Institute Syed Kamarulzaman Bin Dato Shahabudin said during the exhibition “If it is possible we want to place all the franchise business brought here, to Indonesia.”

Malaysia bring 14 franchise businesses to the exhibition, mostly from education, direct selling service, and technology inustrries. Two of which are state companies. Kamarulzaman said his government to promote franchises in education business, as it already has many food franchises operating in Indonesia.

About 160 companies from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines participated in the exhibition.

Hundreds of Companies Participate in International Franchise Exhibition

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The International Franchise, License and Business Concept Expo and Conference/IFRA) will open today.

“This year, 160 companies from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines will participate in the event," said the Domestic Trade Director General, Subagyo, in his opening speech of IFRA at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), today.

In this event, franchise owners can meet with more than 18.000 potential investors.

The exhibition is expected to increase interest in the franchise business in order to and achieve the 12 percent growth target. As an example, as of June last year, around 42.900.000 franchise stores and business opportunities were registered.

Ten state enterprises to conduct roadshows in US, London

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar said 10 state-owned firms are planning to conduct roadshows in the United States and London with the assistance of securities firm Merryl Lynch.

"Non-deal road shows (tours without business ties) will be conducted beginning in July 2010. The needed preparation are being made," Mustafa said here on Friday.

According to Mustafa, the reason for holding the roadshows in the United States and London was that the two places were international investors` bases.

The 10 state companies to conduct the roadshows are PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Mandiri Tbk, PT Bank BNI Tbk, PT Bank BRI Tbk, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk, PT Jasa Marga, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Telkom Tbk, PT Semen Gresik Tbk, and PT Bank BTN.

Earlier, on April 26 to 29, 2010, 10 state companies also held roadshows in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Beside the 10 state-owned companies, the roadshows would also include three state-owned securities firms, namely PT Danareksa Securities, PT Bahana Securities and PT Mandiri Securities.

"Preparations for the tours in the US and London are being made. The target is the same as the one in Singapore and Hong Kong," said Mustafa.

Meanwhile, President Director of Danareksa Securitas Edgar Ekaputra said his company had been asigned by the state enterprises ministry to publicize the state enterprises` performance which had much improved lately.

He said it was important that private investors also know about the performance of Indonesia`s state enterprises. (*)

Bali to produce 110,000 tons of fish

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Bali has a production target of 110,000 tonnes of fish in 2010, which increased from the previous year which was only 106 000 tons, a regional fishery official said.

This target is expected to be achieved, given the fishermen and freshwater fish farming had made maximum efforts to increase production, said Head of Fisheries and Maritime office of the Province of Bali, Gusti Putu Ir Nuriartha said here Friday.

He said the increased production of the fisheries sector will have positive impact on efforts to overcome poverty for fish farmers and fishermen who live on the coast.

Batam needs more skilled workers

Solo, C Java (ANTARA News) - A variety of companies in Batam are currently short of skilled workers, Batam Mayor Ahmad Dahlan said.

"This can be seen from the year 2009 when the needed skilled workers reach 5000 people, but only 3000 people were available," the Mayor said here on Friday.

Batam Mayor Ahmad Dahlan said this after signing a cooperation agreement with the Government of Surakarta, in the field of manpower in Loji Gandrung village, Solo, Surakarta.

The signing of the cooperation agreement was conducted between Batam Mayor Ahmad Dahlan and Solo Mayor Joko Widodo. Through such cooperation it is expected to overcome the problem of unemployment and boost the economy in both regions.

The agreement was signed by the Batam Mayor Ahmad Dahlan and Solo Mayor Joko Widodo. "Like in the electronics industry, we need a trained workforce. Actually in Batam also still many unemployed people but most are not skilled ones who are ready to work," he said.

Surakarta Mayor Joko Widodo said that there are skilled workers in the region who have a tremendous opportunity to fill the shortage of skilled workers in Batam.

Moreover, through Solo Techo Park (STP), skilled manpower training institutions in the city of Solo is targeted to produced as many as 3,000 to 4,000 workers ready to use every year.

"The graduates of a vocational school in Solo, who are also ready to work, could fill in opportunities in an electronic company in Batam. This agreement will be followed up immediately and next year it expected to have already been done," he said.
